Shadowing in Personal Statement Essay

Shadowing in Personal Statement EssayShadowing is the term used to describe an educational experience wherein a student attends a class while being shadowed by another student. This is usually done for a short period of time and involves being taught by a student who is enrolled in a similar program, but not as physically present. The concept is most often used by medical schools where the student will be shadowed by a medical student who will be taking the same classes as the student is attending.A shadowing experience in personal statement helps a medical school student more than a student who does not shadow. It gives an individual a feel for the experiences of another student before enrolling in a program. For example, students who wish to be orthopedic surgeons will often shadow another orthopedic surgeon, so that they have a feel for what the field is like before beginning their training. Although this type of experience is great for personal statement essays, it is much less u seful for applications. When shadowing, the medical school student is often assigned to a professor, colleague, or another student who may be similar to the student's personal situation. This may help the student to get a feel for the type of professor he or she will be working with. For example, a math professor who works with a more laid back personality may be more easily likeable. The shadowing experience is also good for a medical school student who would rather see how their shadow will respond than to watch the student as a fellow student. A student who has a passion for health care or nursing may get a better feel for these fields while shadowing. Although shadowing is a great way to learn about a subject, it is probably not a good idea for an essay. For example, a biology student who wishes to pursue medicine should not expect to be able to observe and document firsthand his interest in medicine. When a student is asked to write an essay, he or she can take it in many differen t directions. However, it is important to keep in mind that a medical school student writing an essay must follow the essay guidelines provided by the school. An essay written in response to a call for essays should also be submitted in response to this call. In addition, one should remember that shadowing is generally only one of the several components that should be included in an essay. In order to keep the medical school experience from being overbearing in an essay, it is a good idea to include all of the other elements as well. A medical school student's signature, a point of view essay, discussion of the importance of self-discovery, discussion of the importance of education, discussion of college and career change, and discussion of the medical profession should all be included in an essay in response to a call for essays. There are some advantages to including all of the aspects, and there are some disadvantages to including none of them. However, both of these should be weig hed when choosing which aspects should be included and which should be left out of the essay.
